Response Paper 3

You must read the chapters Myth, Ritual and Time, Gods, and Systems of Purity before you answer the question.

Answer must be pretending to only specific reading materials.

The essay needs an introductory paragraph introducing your thesis statement and a concluding paragraph that summarizes your argument in the paper. Your paper is to be two pages (or more), double-spaced with 12 pt font. Utilize the checklist to make sure your paper meets all the criteria that are required. This checklist is available on Blackboard as Grading Rubric 3

NOTE:
There is no need for a separate title page. Your name should appear at the top right hand corner of your first page. Your paper should have a title (“Response Paper # 3” is not an appropriate title!). No other information is necessary (there is no need for course number, name of instructor or your student ID number). This format applies to all the rest of the response papers you submit during this semester.

Style and Mechanics (10 points)

___ 1’ margins on all sides and paper title (2 pts)
___ Font 12 pt (Times New Roman) with double-spacing (1 pt)
___ Essay is two pages or more in length. (points will be deducted if paper is only a page and a half or 1and 3/4 pages) (1 pts)
___Grammar (correct spelling, active voice, subject-verb agreement, no sentence fragments, no run-on sentences etc.) (6 pts)
Content (15 points)
___ Introduction paragraph: what categories (such as myth, ritual, gods, and systems of purity) inform a student of Religious Studies, about a tradition? Briefly state what these categories are? This is your thesis statement and the rest of the paper illustrates this (3 pts)
____ Paper is clear on how each category informs us about a religious tradition? What functions do these categories serve? Does the author/student include all possible information as to the function of each category? (5 pts)
____ Paper is clear about how each category relates to the other? For instance, relationship between myth and ritual etc. (5 pts)
____ Conclusion paragraph summarizes the argument from the body of the paper: that is, the definition, function and nature of the categories of the study of religion and how they together inform us of a religious tradition (2 pts)
